The 2008 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 - Saturday, September 6 in Bardstown.  Perhaps nowhere is there a better example of a community that embodies the theme of the 2008 conference, Preserving the Spirit of Home, than Bardstown and Nelson County where the spirits of bourbon, religion and those who have come before are alive and well.  Main Street, historic neighborhoods, iconic buildings such as Federal Hill and the Talbott Tavern, even local farms and rural areas will be the stage for conference programs and sessions, rich cultural resources that also demonstrate the community spirit of dedication to preserving the area's unique character.

The goal of the biennial conference is to celebrate successes, learn from each other and share information about approaches, techniques and programs that will inspire and assist participants in preserving important buildings and sites in their own communities.  As in years past, sessions will be presented in venues around town, and conference participants will learn as much about the host community as they do about the wide range of historic preservation topics that are presented.

Working with co-sponsors Preservation Kentucky and the Kentucky Heritage Council, the conference host committee has worked hard to make this a great conference with more than 30 classroom education sessions, three keynote presentations, optional field sessions and -- new this year -- a Preservation Trade Show featuring experts and vendors, and a Preservation Gallery showcasing projects around the state.

The statewide historic preservation conference is your opportunity to meet and network with fellow preservation supporters, Main Street staff and board members, owners of historic buildings, preservation professionals, builders and craftsmen, developers, volunteers and local officials.
