Conrail Railroad Bridge: “The bridge itself was finished February 18th, 1870…It was the first bridge to span the Ohio at the Falls…The massive limestone pillars towered over the surrounding area, dwarfing trees, boulders and the churning river. …I was awed by the immense structural presence of the bridge”
Second Place: Allie Evans
3rd Grade, Calvary Elementary

Bradfordsville School: “The school was built of…sandstone that was quarried near Bradfordsville. … by the WPA stone masons. … These men took great pride in building a school that was sound as well as architecturally appealing. ”
Third Place Tie: Haleigh Mack & Jordan Doyle
Tollesboro Elementary School
Tollesboro, Kentucky
Himes General Store: “…a center of this community by preserving a piece of Kentucky history and sharing it with everyone.”(Haleigh)
“...a long way from Toll Booths and horse and buggy but it will always be a Mom & Pop grocery with a lot of variety and a lot of heart.” (Jordan)
Middle School (Grades 6-8)
First Place: Hannah Elizabeth Wilson
6th Grade, Lebanon Middle School
Lebanon Kentucky
Dodd House: “It is far too beautiful to ever go to waste…The floors … in the home have the original oak boards. They are very wide and like the mantle are nailed down with rose head nails. O that these floors could talk and answer all of the questions I have about the home... May it ever stand to remind us of our grand heritage as Kentuckians.”
Second Place: Chris Brewer
6th Grade, Fairview Middle School

Westwood Gym: “It was built at a point in history where there was a stock market crash, and unemployment was at an all-time high….The old gym also is the first place I played basketball. All those things make it not only a landmark to Westwood, but also a landmark to me.”
Third Place: Alysa Wilfong
8th Grade, Newport Middle

Corpus Christi: “This beautiful building makes Isabella Street a remembering one…A building with this much beauty and history changes the outlook of what history means to a city….It is still an eye-opener on an ugly, rainy day….”
High School (Grades 9-12)

12th Grade, McCreary Central High

Stearns Company Office: “The building rests above the streets of downtown Stearns, intimidating its neighbors with three stories of historical beauty…The preservation of all historical buildings and artifacts is a task that is just as rewarding doing as it is completing…Preserve History. It may one day be a key into understanding the future.”

11th Grade, Frankfort High School
Frankfort, Kentucky
Cove Springs Waterworks: “..home to one of the first public water supply systems west of the Alleghenies. Established in 1804 the …system was built of limestone…and pipes bored out of cedar wood.”
Third Place: Courtney Hallis
9th Grade, Lafayette High School

Old Courthouse: - “It is a non-profit museum. It is there to inform and let the public see the beauty of this building…The way people built buildings then is different than the way they are built now …Preservation is very important to many buildings and especially this one.”
